Áquila Mazzinghy works as an Assistant Professor at the Altınbaş University Law School (Turkey) and a Guest Lecturer at the Istanbul Center of International Law (ICIL). He teaches courses in Public International Law, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, and International Refugee Law. He is currently conducting a funded research project entitled, “Children affected by the foreign fighter phenomenon,” with a particular focus on Iraq and Syria.

Professor Áquila is a PhD in the field of International Criminal Law (Koç University Law School, Istanbul, Turkey, 2021). His PhD Thesis took the form of a case study of international criminal responsibility for international crimes committed by the ISIL/DAESH in Iraq against Christians. He holds an LLM in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law from Washington College of Law, Washington-DC, US, 2009; and an LLB/Juris Doctor (US), Federal University of Viçosa, Viçosa, Brazil, 2008. His academic and professional work is focused on the intersection of war and the international legal protection of children.
